How Resistance Bands Transformed My Body and Training after Knee Surgery
After undergoing knee surgery in 2014 for a meniscus injury, my fitness routine took a significant hit, especially when it came to running. I looooooved to run!
But unfortunately that’s not part of my life anymore. My personal trainer and friend, Paulo Nicacio, introduced me to resistance bands as an alternative to high-impact exercises. At first, I was skeptical about how these simple bands could make a difference, but they ended up changing both my body and the way I train. By using resistance bands, I was able to improve my mobility, strengthen muscles around my knee, and reduce the strain on my joints. They helped me regain confidence in my workouts and became an essential part of my fitness journey.
I now use various types of resistance bands for different exercises, and they’ve become a go-to tool in my workouts. Whether it’s preparing for strength training sessions (the GLUTES that every girl wants haha) or keeping up with my fitness while traveling, resistance bands offer the perfect solution. Even when I don’t have access to a gym, I’ve found these bands to be just as effective, allowing me to train anywhere—even in the comfort of a hotel room. Here are five key benefits I’ve experienced from using resistance bands:
1. **Low Impact, High Efficiency**: Perfect for people recovering from injuries or avoiding high-impact exercises, resistance bands reduce strain on joints while still offering a challenging workout.
2. **Versatile and Portable**: These bands can be used for almost any muscle group and are easy to carry, making them ideal for home or travel workouts.
3. **Improved Flexibility and Mobility**: They help stretch and strengthen muscles, enhancing overall mobility—essential for someone like me who had a knee injury.
4. **Progressive Resistance**: resistance bands come in different levels of tension, allowing you to gradually increase the intensity of your workouts as you get stronger.
5. **Affordable and Convenient**: Compared to gym equipment, resistance bands are affordable and take up virtually no space. They’re a cost-effective way to keep up with fitness at home or on the go.
It is very adaptable and practical to have resistance bands for both at-home and on-the-go fitness.
If you’re looking for a low-impact but highly effective way to train, I highly recommend giving resistance bands a try.
I’ll share some Amazon links below to the bands I use and a video below demonstrating how to incorporate them into your routine! Also, I would recommend the supervision of a personal trainer, it really makes a difference. I can’t live without them anymore, everywhere I go, I take my little bag with all my bands haha.
